90s Throwbacks: The Grunge Eye Makeup Look

Skinny brows, black eyeliner, messy shimmers, burgundy lips and blush - the 90s created a lot of different trends when it comes to beauty. The 90s Formula

Following on from the hyper-colourful glam of the 80s, the 90s switched it up and was all about muted colours. On one end this allowed

for a newfound focus on natural beauty, perfectly embodied by the Jennifer Aniston laidback, girl next door vibe. On the other end the wave of grunge that took over the musical world crossed into beauty with the likes of Courtney Love giving us dark, smudged, dramatic looks.

Although these two main trends may seem radically opposed, they were tied by one same concept: the illusion of being relaxed, not trying too hard and essentially not giving looks too much importance.

10 steps to a perfect 90s throwback look

1. Start with a base with a light coverage foundation and a soft touch of mauve-toned blush. This will create that signature natural look.
2. Use our Microbrow Precision Pencil to sketch out a skinny and angled shape for your brows.
3. Pull out our Brow Gel Clear to sculpt your brows as narrowly as possible.
4. Use the Black Magic Pencil Eyeliner to line the top and bottom lash line.
5. Blend out the topline using a fluffy brush to smoke out the black.
6. Take the matte deep cool brown Brave in our Limitless Eyeshadow Palette 3 and use it in the crease to soften the black. If you are fairer, feel free to use shade Bloom to further soften the eye look.
7. To add shimmer, add a topcoat of Stone to cool down the look into those perfect 90s shades.
8. Add a few coats of Limitless Lash Lengthening Mascara to create the perfect spiky lashes.
9. Sweep away any fallout using a fluffy powder brush.
10. Finish with a cool toned nude lip or go bold with a dark berry shade.

Leaving the Past Behind
